WILLIAM V.S. TUBMAN UNIVERSITY DELEGATION MEETS WITH NAMCAL OFFICIALS.

William V.S. Tubman University (TU) President, Dr. Elizabeth Davis-Russell and Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Rev. Rita Townsend, on Saturday July 10, 2010 met with NAMCAL, Inc. official to discuss among other things the solidification of old relationships and to explore new ones. The meeting also affirmed the deep friendship between NAMCAL, Inc. and the William V.S. Tubman University. The President of TU, Dr. Elizabeth Davis-Russell provided the NAMCAL officials with update on events and the status of the University since NAMCAL’s financial contribution to that Institution nearly a year ago.

The TU President presented the case for full-four year scholarships in the amount of $4,500.00 US dollars. Dr. Davis-Russell said the amount includes tuition, fees, room and board and books. For her part, the TU Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Rev. Rita Townsend spoke of TU’s requirement that its instructors have a minimum educational level of a Masters degree.

Responding to questions from NAMCAL officials, Dr. Davis-Russell exposited on TU’s ideal student-faculty ratio of 20 to 1. She also spoke of the recent addition of 8 faculty members from Nigeria, the hiring of deans for each of the five colleges, and the recent faculty and staff recruitment drive held in Monrovia. Other discussions included gift naming opportunities, the need for textbooks, and the hybrid renewable energy project to light portions of the campus with 25 lamps powered by solar energy. This project Phase One is scheduled to be completed by September 2010, in time for the new semester, at an approximate cost of $114,000.00 USD.

In closing remarks, Dr. Felicia Lamptey, President of NAMCAL, Inc., thanked the TU officials for inviting NAMCAL to the meeting and updating the Association on their plan and goal for the next five years. The NAMCAL boss also reiterated the significant role of the Tubman University and its effect on the entire Southeastern Region and how the University is the beacon of hope for many citizens in the area. Dr. Lamptey further promised the TU officials that she will present all of the information concerning sponsorship in terms of scholarships, naming of facilities and all other concerns to the National Assembly of NAMCAL when the Association meets in September 2010. And whatever decision that will be made at the National Assembly will be communicated to the Tubman University officials.
