GOVERNMENT OF LIBERIA DONATES COMPUTERS TO MARYLAND COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Maryland County students one step closer to computer literacy.

The Government of Liberia has fulfilled her promise to the people of Maryland County that every Public School in the County will have a Computer Lab.

The Government, through the Ministry of Education, donated 80 pieces of desktop computers to the Maryland County School System. The 80 pieces of computers were first received by Mr. Kafula Kabaso, the UNMIL civil affairs officer assigned in the County. He officially turned them over to Superintendent Sie Teba Neufville who later presented the computers to the County Education Officer Mr. James Bartee.

According to CEO Bartee, the computers are intended for and will only be given to Public Schools. He said that there is a criteria set for the delivery of the computers to the beneficiaries. The CEO said every school that is to benefit from this gesture must have an arranged room for the setting up of the computers and a generator to power them. Mr. Bartee said that in the absence of these facilities, his office will not deliver the school consignment.

As of the posting of this information, only Pleebo High School has met the criteria and has received 28 pieces of computers.

When questioned about who is responsible to prepare the facilities for the public schools? (The Ministry of Education or the School’s administration?), he said it is the School’s administration that is responsible.

According to our observations, some public schools will not be able to purchase and/or fuel a generator in the absence of external support.
