SENATOR SCOTT EMPOWERED THE PLEEBO COMMUNITY WOMEN CENTER AND DONATES SEVERAL ITEMS

 

On New Year's eve, Senator Gloria Musu Scott visited the Pleebo Community Women Center in Pleebo City. She donated 2 sewing machines, scissors, tie and dye materials and cloth, stiffens and several materials for the center including the center Article of incorporation.

Senator Scott told the trainees, staff and the Women of Pleebo that she is happy over the way the women have been impacting the lives of the people of pleebo. She congratulated the women leadership for their hard work and dedication to the center.

The spokes person of the center Mrs. Ruth Kais expressed thanks and appreciation to Senator Scott and said it is not a surprise to them as she has always identify with them. She said from the foundation of the building Senator Scott was the first person to give them some huge some of money that motivated them to construct the center. Mrs. Kais said the Senator have always contributed to the smooth operation of the center.

The Pleebo Community Women Center is a self initiative by the women of Pleebo to help educate and train their fellow women in Sewing, Baking, Tie and Dye, Soap Making and other essential home economic activities. The center now trains about 50 women ranging from the ages of 25 years and above at present. However the women are encouraging young girls from age 16 and above to enroll.

The center started in 2005 with World Vision Liberia and UNHCR completing the structure and UNHCR give startup donation of 7 sewing machines and baking materials.

The Management is calling on all humanitarian in the world to help them extend their building so that the center will run a preparatory nursery school and more baking materials especially ovens

U.S.A AMBASSADOR'S WIFE VISITS MARYLAND COUNTY......

GIVES NEW YEAR GIFTS TO ORPHANS

 

The wife of the United States Ambassador to Liberia Mrs. Anita Booth along with her 2 children David and Alison Booth pay courtesy call on Orphanages in Harper, Maryland County on the eve of New Year day.

Mrs. Booth distributed variety of toys to Orphans of the Lue Klanyene Orphanage in Hoffman Station and Mother Gee Orphanage in Philadelphia, Maryland County.

According to her the gesture was intended to put smiles on the faces of orphans around the Country to enable them to celebrate the New Year happily. She said the donation was made possible by the United States Marine Corps.

The heads of the 2 Orphanages Madam Annie Bekoe and Toeday Nelson Gee thanked Mrs. Anita Booth for the kind gesture and hope that others will follow suit.

Madam Lue Klanyene Orphanage headed by Madam Annie Bekoe was established during the heat of the Liberian crisis in 1994.

Madam Bekoe said she has about 26 orphans age ranging from 4 months to 15 years. She gets her not regular subsidy from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare but uses her

teaching salary to cater to the orphans. She tutors them herself. The children take treatment at the J.J. Dossen Hospital which is free of charge. She is seeking support from all humanitarian organization for the feeding and education of the orphans.

Mother Gee Orphanage headed by Madam Toeday Nelson Gee was established in the year 1982 and has about 40 orphans. Mother Gee as she is frequently call said the orphanage depends on subsistence farming to feed the children and she has from 4 years to 18 years orphans in her center. Because of the lack of Money she tutors the children herself along with her husband. She is seeking for support in the area of education and food for the orphans.

The Liberia civil crisis left lots of children without parents. Some of the parents were killed during the civil crisis. Some abandoned their children in flight for safety and can not identify them because of the prolonged war.

Lue Klanyene and Mother Gee orphanages are the 2 orphanages in Maryland County that have been recognized by the Government of Liberia.
