NAMCAL-USA PRESIDENT VISITS MARYLAND COUNTY

The President of the National Maryland County Association of Liberia, USA, Ms. Roberta Brown, arrived in Maryland County on January 14 on board a chartered taxi from Monrovia. Upon arrival, Superintendent Sie Teba Neufville, Senator John Ballout, the Mayor of Harper City, Chiefs and Elders, Women and Youth Groups, and a cross section of residents of the County, met her and a delegation comprising of Mrs. Catherine Woods, Kpamu Sie and Mle Dio Freeman.

The usual welcome kola nuts ceremony took place and the mayor presented her with the key to the city.

The NAMCAL / MFP president said she was delighted to be back home after several years in the Diaspora. She said she came to listen to the plight of the people and to see for herself the reality on the grounds. “I bring you greetings from Marylanders in the United States of America, they are thinking about you”, she said.

 

Ms. Brown toured the four districts of Maryland County and held town hall meetings. She also visited public and private schools, the J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital and other important institutions within the county.

President Brown appealed for unity amongst the residents in the four districts. She said, “Once you are united, Marylanders in the U.S.A. will gather resources to support you and the County’s development. But if you are divided, supporting you will be difficult because we do not want our efforts to be in vain”. She advised residents to come together and be one people. She also intimated to the students that she would appeal to Marylanders in the U.S.A. to raise the funds necessary for them to sit for the West African Examination Council test. “Our dream is to see that every child in Maryland County receives an education”, she said.

 

Ms. Roberta Brown is taking numerous appeals and requests back to the U.S. Maryland County hospitals and clinics need competent Nurses, equipment, and medicines. The teachers appealed for Marylanders in the Diasporas to augment their salary while the students said they need scholarships, Libraries and Laboratories. The women’s groups need home economics materials and micro loan for their businesses.

Ms. Brown promised that she will lobby Maryland organizations in the U.S. to see what can be done to alleviate their sufferings but she advised that things will not happen overnight.

 

Ms. Brown celebrated her birthday on January 17th in Barrobo district were she spent the early days of her life.

 

Upon her departure from the County, the President said that she was impress and happy to see people with hope despite the numerous problems confronting them. “We will have to work hard to race funds in unity to help our people. Our people should not be impatient”.
